2 Corinthians 6:17

About Us
St. Peter’s is firmly rooted in the Anglican concept of Scripture, Tradition, and Reason.
It is a historic colonial church thoroughly interwoven with the development of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and the nation. Founded in 1685, the church was chartered in 1718 by King George I and still uses gifts presented by Queen Anne. The church structure is surrounded by a carefully kept graveyard which is the resting place of many figures from history, including Thomas Mundy Peterson, the first African-American voter in the USA after the 15th Amendment became law. Among the gravestones is one that bears a hole made by a British musket ball during the Revolutionary War. (Read more about our history.)
We have strong traditions and are the oldest Episcopal Church in New Jersey, but we don’t act our age! We look far beyond the walls of our beautiful church, inviting and welcoming all. The congregation has welcomed people from a wide variety of denominations as well as those who are unchurched and people who are seeking. In keeping with Episcopal tradition, St. Peter’s is a church that welcomes questions.
The congregation includes members from infants to 90-somethings coming from various places around the globe as well as the USA and is a place where all people are embraced and difference is celebrated. Everyone is welcome here and all questions are welcome here.
